Filter Tool

Filtering List Views

The Filter Editor lets you narrow the Projects, Items, Contacts, or Companies list to matching records. Unlike the earlier desktop application, filters set here apply immediately for the current session only — they are not saved to the database and do not persist between application restarts.

To open the Filter Editor:

  1. Click Filter in the bar above the list, or right-click any row and choose Filter…, or choose Filter Data… from the app menu (the menu icon at the top of the icon rail, under the Edit group).

The Filter Editor is a two-panel window: a column list on the left and a values panel on the right. Columns with an active filter show a filled dot and a count badge in the column list.

Filtering By Specific Value

For each column you can select from a list of existing distinct values.

To filter by a value:

  1. From the Filter Editor, choose the column from the list on the left.
  2. Click each value in the values panel to include it in the results.
  3. Click Apply.

Filtering By Search Text

Text columns can be searched for a matching sub string. Searches are not case sensitive.

To filter by a sub string:

  1. From the Filter Editor, choose the column from the list on the left.
  2. Type in the Search Text box.
  3. Click Apply.

Filtering By Range

Date columns can be filtered within a start/end range instead of a value list or search text.

To filter by a range:

  1. From the Filter Editor, choose a date column from the list on the left.
  2. Set the start of the range, if you want one — either type the date, or click the calendar button beside the box and pick a day.
  3. Set the end of the range the same way, if you want one.
  4. Click Apply.

The calendar also offers Today to fill in the current date, and Clear to empty that end of the range.

Date Searches

Dates typed by hand need to follow the MM/DD/YYYY date format in order to work correctly. Dates chosen from the calendar are always entered in that format.

Resetting the Filter

The Filter Editor allows you to quickly clear all filter settings.

To clear all of your filters:

  1. From the Filter Editor, click Reset all.
  2. Click Apply.

Clearing a Column's Filter

Clearing the filter on a single column can be done without impacting filters on other columns.

To clear the filter on a column:

  1. From the Filter Editor, choose the column from the list on the left.
  2. Click Clear column.
  3. Click Apply.

Canceling a Filter

Your changes are not applied until you click Apply. Click Cancel (or the × in the header) to close the Filter Editor without changing the active filter.
